  • Should granite be sealed?

It requires very little maintenance and is quite durable. However, when looking to maintain its stain resistance, some maintenance is required from time to time to reseal the material. In its natural state, granite is porous and absorbs liquids easily, therefore, it needs to be sealed to make it stain-resistant.

  • What Stone Sealer Is the Best?

It is a question that gets asked repeatedly; and not just for stone sealer.  As a result, we thought it would be good to write an article explaining the answers to the question, "What is the best stone sealer?" As you read through this article note many different ways that question is answered and what kind of details are factored into any given answer.

Determining the best stone sealer requires careful consideration of various factors. This is because each situation is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Hence, several variables must be taken into account when selecting a stone sealer. Let's explore some factors to consider when choosing a stone sealer.

When searching for the best stone sealer, it's important to understand that there are two main types of sealers: topical and impregnating. While both types have their advantages, they also come with their own set of disadvantages.

If you choose a topical sealer for your natural stone surface, you will need to be aware that when it comes time to "reseal" the surface you might to need to strip the coating off and then reseal. Additionally, not all topical sealers are strip-able. Some sealers that coat the surface are actually permanent and cannot be removed. So, if you are looking for a topical stone sealer, this would no doubt be something to consider.

  • Does granite scratch or chip?

Granite is one of the most versatile materials that can be used to make kitchen worktops. The natural stone is mostly scratch-resistant or at least hides small scratches well, due to the depth of its colour and patterns.

Granite will only be scratched by another piece of granite or with specially sharpened tools designed to cut through the material. Granite chopping boards may sound like a nice idea but placing one on your granite surface will scratch it.

    Regarding chipping

Heavy objects can easily chip the edges of your sink or countertop ledge. To prevent chipping, choose from different edge profiles designed to handle heavy hits and pressure.

  • Can I set hot pots on my granite countertop

It is recommended to always use a trivet or a potholder when placing hot pans on your granite countertop, although it is possible to place a hot pan directly on the surface due to its high heat tolerance.  Briefly placing a hot pan on your granite countertop is not likely to cause long-term damage. That said, we don’t recommend putting hot pans on granite countertops not for the granite’s sake but for yours. A hot pan will heat the granite if it is left on top of it; when you remove the pan, the hot granite surface could burn you or someone else.
